On this day of Korea's Independence, please find below part of my statement from today's commemorative event organized by the Korean Society of BC, as well as Prime Minister Stephen Harper's message. 

As we continue to celebrate and commemorate the "Year of Korea and Canada" and the "Year of the Korean War Veteran", it is all the more significant to pause and remember the struggles of our ancestors and their fight for independence. With deep gratitude, my staff and I will continue to serve the Korean Canadian community to the best of our ability.

"68번째 광복절 기념행사에 이렇게 참여할 수 있어서 기쁨니다.
가슴아픈역사가 있었지만 그 이후로 어느나라보다 더욱더 빛이나는

한국이 자랑스럽습니다.

무너질 수 도있었지만, 오히려 더욱더 노력하고 열심인 한국인들은 이렇게 캐나다에

와서도 빛나고있습니다.지난 달에 저는 한국참전용사님들과 캐나다대표로 보훈처장관님과 함께 한국에 한국전쟁협정기념행사를 다녀왔습니다.

특별히 한국전 이후로 처음으로 한국에 가보시는 ?참천용사님들의 표정을 ?보면서, 한국이 얼마나 놀랍게 변했는지 또 다시 느낄 수 있었습니다.

한국을 이렇게 훌륭하게 키워주신 저희들의 할아버님, 할머님, 아버님, 어머님들께 감사의 말씀을 드리고싶고, 이렇게 캐나다에서 뿌듯한 마음으로 Korean Canadian으로 살 수있어서 행복합니다."
