제27회 마부하이 필리핀 페스티벌(Mabuhay Philippines Festival)이 이번 주말인 2026년 8월 22일~23일 토론토 네이슨 필립스 광장(Nathan Phillips Square)에서 개최됩니다. 필리핀 독립기념일 위원회(PIDC)는 기업 후원 감소와 재정적 어려움 속에서도 약 30만 명의 인파가 몰릴 것으로 예상하며 역대 최대 규모의 행사를 준비했습니다.
주요 재정적 배경
올해 토론토의 많은 여름 축제들과 마찬가지로 마부하이 페스티벌 역시 위축된 경기 여건으로 인해 어려움을 겪고 있습니다. 주최 측은 토론토 프라이드(Pride) 축제가 최근 70만 달러의 재정 적자를 기록한 사례를 언급하며, 기업들의 후원이 전반적으로 크게 줄었다고 밝혔습니다.
하지만 PIDC 측은 지역 커뮤니티 상생을 위해 부스 참가비를 낮게 유지하여 현지 필리핀 소상공인들의 부담을 최소화하는 방향으로 축제를 이어가기로 결정했습니다.
